Sly Clyde Ciderworks has really big plans and it all starts at its Hampton, Virginia location. Just blocks from the beach and bathed by the sun, Sly Clyde is selling Virginia’s first beach-based cider in bars, restaurants, and its own tasting room. We are looking for someone to join our start-up, manage our tasting room, and help us create an insanely fun, public facing brand. Our award-winning team of cider makers is crafting delicious hard ciders that need the support of an equally effervescent sales team, particularly at our newly renovated facilities in the Phoebus neighborhood of Hampton.


The Tasting Room Manager will establish and run one of Hampton Road’s most exciting new bars, introduce customers to cider, cultivate relationships with regulars, and generate new sales through merchandise, loyalty programs, and packaged goods.


  • Bartending
    • Provide exceptional and patient customer service
    • Educate customers about craft cider and our processes
    • Clean and prepare for opening and closing
    • Maintain taproom and courtyard organization and cleanliness at all times
    • Change kegs and keep keg room organized


  • Management
    • Ensure all bartenders are adhering to ABC regulations and Virginia law
    • Set weekly bartending schedules, communicating and actively managing staff
    • Fill holes in schedules if bartender is sick or fails to show up
    • Maintain merchandise inventory and re-order as necessary
    • Clean tap lines frequently to ensure cider quality
    • Ensure cider presentations and public engagement are of the highest quality
    • Maintain glassware inventory and cleanliness
    • Ensure the proper function of equipment (glass washer, etc)
    • Coordinate Food Truck schedules


  • Events
    • Suggest ideas for on-site community events; plan, staff, and coordinate them
    • Book, schedule, and work private parties


  • Tours & Sales
    • Conduct tours at set times and at the spur of the moment (when appropriate)
    • Provide customers an educational experience by memorizing and following Sly Clyde’s tour notes
    • Using your deep knowledge of cider and fermentation, answer any questions that may arise from customers about cider making
    • Manage our “mug club” customer loyalty program including new subscriptions and renewals



  • 2-3x shifts per week: bartending
  • 1-3x shift per week: management duties + second bartender
    • Management duties include: scheduling, tap line cleaning, merchandise restocking, inventory
  • Will be required to work weekends
  • May be required to come in early or stay late


Experience and Skills

  • Required
    • 3+ years in hospitality: bartender, barista, waiter, etc
    • Knowledge of and passion for craft beverages in general and craft cider in particular
    • Experience managing others and working within a team
    • Personability, patience, desire to connect with customers
    • Ability to work evenings and weekends


  • Desired
    • Willingness to:
      • work with owners and Head Cidermaker to mold the Sly Clyde taproom experience into something special
      • set a positive tone in the taproom for bartenders and customers
      • offer bold new ideas and implement them with dedication and thoroughness
